The Glass Castle

The Glass Castle. Rex's dream, that soon became his childrens dream as well. Through out Jeannettes life, they have been trying to find gold to pay for materials, and a place to actually build the Glass Castle and fullfill there dreams. They finally start to dig a foundation and they end up filling it with garbage instead, and they never get lucky with the gold.The Castle shows that the family has hopes and dreams, but since they are so poor they REALLY have to work for them & this one is way out of anyones reach..

Rex's Drinking..

When the Walls family move to welch, and get kicked out of Rex's mothers house, Rex's drinking gets out of hand. He disappears for days at a time, and when he does come home sometimes he's injured, or drunk out of his mind. Being in welch brings back memories from his childhood he doesn't want to remember. He drinks away his pain. Then his mother dies, and adds to the pile of stuff that bothers him, the house sucks, childhood memories creeping back, and his family living on the tiniest bit of money risking there lives, which brings up how hes paying for his alcohol, what are you hiding Rex?

Rex's Mothers Death

At Rex's mothers funeral, for the first time ever, Jeannette sees her dad wear a tie. He always called them a noose. The fact that he actually wore one to his mothers funeral, shows that he really did care about his mom. He shows her respect by wearing the tie. After the funeral I feel Rex couldnt cope with his mothers death, and therefore is why he doesnt come home anymore.

Welch

Welch. In this little town surrounded by mountains the Walles family lived for a long while. 93 Little Hobart Street was their adress, although I couldn't find a picture of the house, I found a picture of the town. The river that flooded every year, the houses that it flooded into. They have spent quite a bit of time in Welch, and a lot has happened. They got kicked out of Rex's moms place, and found a place of their own, which come winter they almost froze to death. Rex's mom died and he started drinking hardcore. More then usual.The way the Walles family are living here, they seem more poor and striving to survive then ever.
